Powder Coating
Bayou City Coatings specializes in powder coating using electrostatic application and oven curing of polyester forming durable and attractive finishes on metal without VOC emissions.

Powder Coating Services

Powder coating is superior to paint. It is longer lasting, much more durable and has almost no VOC emissions. Its advantages over paint have created a $1.5 billion market in the U.S. in 2013, a number that continues to grow in 2014.

Powder coating has a long history and is a favorite for items needing a superior finish and very durable coating. Powder is drawn into the object by electrostatic charge and then set by high heat.
Commercial and household paints use a liquid carrier to carry paint solids to a surface with limited effectiveness. Adhesion, corrosion resistance, edge protection, coating thickness and uniformity are all superior with powder coating.

There are several types of powder coating. Each is engineered for a different type of metal composition and finish appearance to provide a rock-hard, durable surface.  The type of powder coating used for your project will depend on the metal base, the anticipated use, and the finish desired.  It is not a “one product fits all” solution.  Devin and Brian will help you chose the right formulation and process. You will be surprised at the thousands of different colors, textures and specialty powders to choose from.

Certain glasses and ceramics can also be powder coated. Contact us about your particular project: or (832) 230-4107

Powder Coating Process

Powder coating is superior for any metal object that will be outdoors while providing a beautiful and professional appearance.   Because of their severe exposure and use, automotive parts are particularly suited for powder coating.

Objects under the hood or otherwise subject to high heat like barbeques can be powder coated with a high temperature formulation and process for even greater durability and finish stability.  You no longer have to choose between full functionality and appearance.

Stage 1: Clean

Objects are first cleaned by sandblasting.  This not only insures complete removal of any foreign material, but the abrasion also gives the surface a micro-abraded “tooth” that provides for superior adhesion of the coating.  For many used parts and some new parts additional cleaning may be necessary in addition to sandblasting.  Pretreatments like degreasing, minor sanding and grinding may be necessary.

Stage 2: Powder Coat

Bayou City Coatings uses a polyester based powder that is designed specifically to handle outdoor environments and includes such protections as UV inhibitors. The powder is electrostatically applied to the surface at 30,000 to 90,000 volts and bonds to the item like a magnet.
The thickness of the coating is greater that paint.  Because of the electrostatic bonding, there are absolutely no runs or sags in the finish despite the extra thickness. The strength of this initial bonding also insures that nothing is loosened during transport to the baking oven.

Stage 3: Bake

The item is then baked in our curing oven and sealed at over 400 degrees F. When cooled, the finish is as durable as any process commercially available. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality and attractive coating that will both last and look good for years indoors or out.

Powder Coating Pricing and Warranty

The attached list is for basic automotive parts, since they are all fairly similar this list is a good place to start. We can powder coat almost anything metal or alloy, we have also had success with many glass items and ceramics. It's difficult to calculate exact pricing over the phone, therefore, we will give you an estimate, and then a firm written quote once we see the item and you pick a color. Emailing us pictures is always a good idea. There are thousands of different colors, textures and specialty made powders to choose from.

Prices generally include abrasive blasting, masking, surface preparation and powder coating using a stock color. Prices do not include standard degreasing and cleaning, minor sanding or grinding, pre-treatment (if you bring us an item that is muddy and/or covered in grease there will be an additional charge. 2-coat applications are priced higher. Clear coat is required for all metallic and silver coating. Optional clear powder top coat or second coat is available. All prices are for disassembled parts. Parts bought to us that require disassembly will incur additional charges! Masking of lettering or other objects as well as multi-color items will incur additional charges.

  • Warranty against flaking and peeling on new items for 6 months from date of service.
  • Warranty against flaking or peeling on used parts - 3 months from date of service.

We assume no responsibility for nicks, cuts, scratches, or any other abusive wear and tear during any consumer's usage once parts have been powder coated.

Once parts have been installed or used, we are not responsible for burnt coatings when operating temperatures exceed the maximum powder coating temperature limits: 1,000 degrees for high temperature powders and 300 degrees for all other powders.
